New project to politically empower young women in the mountain regions of Georgia

We’ve just embarked on a new project to politically empower young women in the mountain regions of Georgia

Mountain Regions of Georgia, especially in the North bear a special strategic significance for Georgia; they are like citadels of the state naturally defining the borders and demarcation lines between Russia and Georgia.

Women activism has been increased recently in Georgia but it is more feasible in the capital cities and districts and less vivid in the remote areas of Georgia, especially in the mountain areas. The mountain areas of Georgia suffer from many problems and especially migration, women are emigrated abroad to seek jobs and support their families back at hopes; women are less now in numbers and those who are left are busy with everyday life and have no opportunity to participate in the country’s political and economic lives. The project “ More actively involved women in the election process –more result in the course of building local democracy”  was financed by Central Election Commission of Georgia to support women’s political activism especially during election process. Our organisation is working with women and girls from Dusheti, Tianeti and kazbegi Districts to raise awareness on their political and civil rights and support them establish non-governmental organisations so that their voices are heard and counted and they become a strong part of the local civil society.
